Summertime in Memphis – hot and humid!! June is here – vacations, WEDDINGS, cookouts, baseball games and SCHOLARSHIPS!!! On June 19, at The University Club, we will award ASIST scholarships to two very deserving students. I attended the judges’ collaboration meeting and was very impressed with their level of commitment in selecting deserving candidates and their genuine concern for the importance of a good education. Thank you to Melinda Edwards, B/C/DP Chairman, and her committee for an outstanding effort. This year we received over 20 applications from many different educational institutions. Our 2008 winners attend Baptist College of Health Sciences and The University of Memphis. That’s all I am going to tell you for now…..

Our Executive Luncheon was absolutely exquisite thanks to the collaborative efforts of Sherry Field’s Program committee. A special “thank you” to Jackie Hicks for the breathtaking decorations. I also appreciate Carol Ann Koch’s role in securing our guest speaker (and her former boss!), the Honorable Dick Hackett. Mr. Hackett shared some of his past experiences and with his current efforts at The Children’s Museum of Memphis. His tenure at the Children’s Museum has already made a remarkable contribution to the lives of Mid-South children. Thank you, Mr. Hackett, for showing us and reminding us that one person CAN make a difference if they have the desire to so.
